Dozens killed, injured in Iran suicide attack

CHAHBAHAR: An explosion in the south-eastern Iranian city of Chabahar killed and injured dozens, an Iranian news agency reports.

The blast, said to be a suicide attack, took place outside the Imam Hossein Mosque, the Irna news agency said.

"The blast happened in front of a mosque in the city of Chabahr killing dozens and wounding many of those praying on the holy Shiite day of Ashur," IRNA quoted Mohammad Yaqub Jadgal, a lawmaker, as saying.

"A local official confirmed the explosion in Chabahr on Wednesday. Some reports suggested that the blast was the result of a suicide bomb attack."

The report said the governor-general of Sistan-Balochistan province had confirmed the incident.

The province with the mainly Sunni population is prone to unrest.
